Meat Microbiology


The meat sector employs a large number of microbiologists. Food industry microbiologists work in a variety of capacities, but primarily in product development and food quality control and inspection. A microbiologist performs laboratory tests to detect pathogens that may result in foodborne illnesses. Microbiologists may work in the area of product development or quality control.

Meat microbiologists often have a degree in food science or microbiology.​​​
